Workshop Auto Electrician - Papua New Guinea
Role Purpose:
The Workshop Auto Electrician is responsible for overseeing auto electrical workshop operations, including the supervision of technical staff and the maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, and farming machinery.
This role ensures that all servicing, repairs, and maintenance activities are completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard, while supporting operational uptime and reliability of all assets.

Operational Management
The Workshop Auto Electrician is responsible for overseeing auto electrical workshop operations, including the supervision of technical staff and the maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, and farming machinery.
This role ensures that all servicing, repairs, and maintenance activities are completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard, while supporting operational uptime and reliability of all assets.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Management
- Supervise, plan, and coordinate fleet servicing and maintenance activities
- Allocate resources effectively to ensure work is completed within time, cost, quality, and safety requirements
- Perform advanced auto electrical diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on trucks, light vehicles, and plant equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair components including ECMs, modules, starters, alternators, and air-conditioning systems
- Utilise electronic diagnostic tools and systems for fault finding and repairs
- Attend to breakdowns and provide on-site support where required
- Conduct daily toolbox talks, prioritise workloads, and address team concerns
- Enforce standard operating procedures and approve procurement of parts and services
- Manage job orders and ensure accurate and timely reporting of maintenance activities
- Coordinate with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure efficient service delivery
- Maintain effective communication to support operational requirements and minimise downtime
- Provide guidance, direction, and performance feedback to workshop staff
- Supervise technicians and apprentices to ensure quality workmanship
- Deliver on-the-job training and support skills development within the team
- Promote a motivated and high-performing work environment
- Ensure all repair work meets quality standards and minimises rework
- Conduct quality checks on completed work and troubleshooting processes
- Maintain adherence to safety standards and workshop procedures
- Support continuous improvement in maintenance practices and safety compliance

Qualifications
- Automotive Trade Certificate, Diploma, or equivalent
- Additional technical or tertiary qualifications advantageous
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in a workshop environment, preferably within transport or agricultural sectors
- Experience working with a variety of fleet and heavy equipment
- Proven experience managing workshop teams and operations
- Strong knowledge of repair and maintenance requirements for trucks and light vehicles
- Solid understanding of auto electrical systems and diagnostics
- Experience using advanced electronic diagnostic tools (ET)
- Working knowledge of CMMS or maintenance management systems
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Good administrative and reporting capability
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications
- Strong leadership and team management ability
