Welder/Fabrication Assistant - East Rand

Role Purpose

Our client is seeking a reliable and motivated Fabrication Assistant to support the fabrication team in delivering high-quality production outputs. The successful candidate will assist supervisors, welders and artisans with a variety of fabrication activities while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
This role requires a physically fit individual with experience in a fabrication or engineering workshop environment and a strong commitment to safety, teamwork and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication Support

  • Assist with daily fabrication activities to meet production schedules.
  • Perform grinding, cutting, bevelling and cleaning of fabrication components.
  • Assist with the fit-up, tack welding and assembly of fabricated components.
  • Support the assembly of piping systems, valves and related equipment.
  • Provide general workshop assistance as required.
  • Prepare materials and workpieces for fabrication processes.

Quality Control

  • Conduct routine visual inspections of fabricated workpieces.
  • Ensure components meet quality standards before progressing to the next production stage.
  • Report quality concerns or damaged materials to the supervisor.
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship throughout all fabrication activities.
  • Support continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Equipment & Workshop Maintenance

  • Operate power tools, hand tools and workshop equipment safely.
  • Ensure proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe work environment.
  • Perform routine housekeeping within fabrication and welding areas.
  • Assist with organising materials and workshop resources.

Health & Safety

  • Comply with all workplace health and safety procedures.
  • Wear and maintain the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow safe work practices at all times.
  • Report hazards, incidents or unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Contribute to a safe and efficient working environment.

Communication & Teamwork

  • Provide regular progress updates to supervisors.
  • Work closely with supervisors, welders and fabrication personnel.
  • Assist with achieving production targets and deadlines.
  • Support other production activities as required.
  • Perform additional duties related to the role when necessary.

 



Role Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Grade 12 (Matric).

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in the metals, fabrication or engineering industry.
  • Experience in pipe fabrication will be advantageous.
  • Experience in valve manufacturing will be advantageous.
  • Exposure to engineering workshop environments will be beneficial.
