Visual Merchandiser - Strategic

Introduction

Our client is seeking a Visual Merchandiser - Strategic to join their team in Cape Town. This role is positioned within a high-volume retail environment and is suited to a professional who can combine commercial awareness, operational discipline, and strong stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting product availability, supplier performance, stock flow, cost control, and overall business execution. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day store, category, stock, pricing, merchandising, or operational activities depending on the assigned function.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service, merchandising, housekeeping, stock accuracy, and process compliance.
  • Analyse sales, shrink, stock movement, or service-level data and escalate risks or opportunities appropriately.
  • Work closely with store leadership, warehouse teams, buyers, planners, and support functions to improve execution.
  • Assist with promotional rollouts, pricing updates, replenishment, stock counts, and exception management.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports that track performance, issues, and improvement actions.
  • Ensure all documentation, approvals, and operational records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
  • Support problem resolution relating to customers, stock, suppliers, deliveries, systems, or workflow bottlenecks.
  • Follow internal controls, safety procedures, service standards, and company operating guidelines at all times.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying process efficiencies and recommending practical operational enhancements.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Relevant diploma or degree in Business, Supply Chain, Retail Management, Fashion, Textiles, Procurement, Logistics, or a related field depending on the role.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar function within a structured commercial, retail, sourcing, apparel, textile, or supply chain environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including reporting, analysis, reconciliation, or planning tasks relevant to the position.
  • Experience using ERP, procurement, merchandising, retail, or planning systems would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage suppliers, internal stakeholders, and operational teams professionally.
  • Excellent organisational skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to interpret data, identify risks, and recommend practical actions.
  • A proactive, accountable work style with the ability to operate both independently and collaboratively.
  • Understanding of retail operations, merchandising principles, stock control, customer service standards, shrink awareness, and trading rhythms would be advantageous.
  • Ability to work flexible retail hours, peak trading periods, weekends, or shift-based schedules where applicable to the role.
  • Typically requires around 3–6 years relevant experience with a proven record of reliable delivery and process ownership.
  • Candidates should be comfortable handling routine stakeholder interaction and independent execution of core responsibilities.
