Toolmaker
We are currently looking for a Toolmaker who will be responsible for designing, manufacturing, repairing, and maintaining precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and moulds used in the plastic manufacturing process. The role ensures production equipment operates efficiently, safely, and to the required quality standards.
Minimum Requirements:
- Trade qualification as a Toolmaker (Red Seal or equivalent preferred)
- 3–5 years’ experience in a toolroom or manufacturing environment (plastics industry advantage)
- Strong knowledge of injection moulds and plastic manufacturing processes
- CNC machining and conventional machining skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Competent in precision measuring instruments
- Attention to detail and high precision work
- Problem-solving and fault-finding ability
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Team collaboration and communication skills
- Manufacture and assemble precision tools, moulds, dies, jigs, and fixtures according to engineering drawings.
- Interpret technical drawings, CAD models, and specifications.
- Use manual and CNC machining equipment to produce high-precision components.
- Inspect, repair, and modify existing tools and moulds to ensure optimal performance.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on tooling and equipment.
- Troubleshoot tooling issues affecting production quality or efficiency.
- Provide technical support to the production team during tooling-related breakdowns.
- Assist in setting up tools and ensuring correct installation on machines.
- Work closely with production and engineering teams to improve tooling performance.
- Ensure all tools meet required dimensional and quality standards.
- Conduct inspections using measuring instruments (micrometers, verniers, gauges, etc.).
- Adhere to safety standards and company procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve tooling efficiency and lifespan.
- Recommend design improvements to reduce downtime and waste.
