Software Developer - GraphQL Focus

Role Overview

Design, implement and optimise unified GraphQL API layers for web and mobile platforms. Bridge client-side experience, backend microservices and enterprise data-graph orchestration by standardising frontend-to-backend data delivery and reducing over-fetching and under-fetching.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain GraphQL schemas, custom types, mutations, subscriptions and directives.
• Write, test and optimise asynchronous resolver functions connected to microservices, REST APIs and databases.
• Implement graph federation and schema stitching to consolidate backend services.
• Diagnose performance and resource-exhaustion risks using batching and caching strategies.
• Configure query-complexity analysis, depth limiting and field-level access control.
• Collaborate with React, React Native, Angular and mobile teams on query schemas and client-state requirements.
• Maintain schema documentation, playground environments and developer tooling.
• Monitor and profile GraphQL operations, tracing field latency and optimising payload transport.
• Implement client-side and server-side caching policies.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, task estimation and schema-design reviews.

Desired Experience and Qualification

• National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related field.
• Three to five years' commercial software-development experience, including at least two years building production GraphQL layers.
• Mastery of modern GraphQL stacks using TypeScript, Node.js or Java.
• Relevant cloud or developer certification is advantageous.
• Experience in IT Consulting or Telecommunications is advantageous.
• In-depth understanding of GraphQL compared with REST, gRPC and SOAP.
• Experience with DataLoader, caching and performance optimisation.
• Experience integrating GraphQL with modern front-end frameworks and state-management libraries.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, collaboration and communication skills.
