Senior IT Operations Engineer (IaC and Transitions Management)

Role Overview

A global IT Hub is seeking a Senior Operations Engineer to join the core Operations Engineering team and drive the Conformity of Production and Idea-to-Offer quality-platform landscape. The product ecosystem supports manufacturing applications, harmonised data models, regulatory-authority reporting, and next-generation vehicle technologies including electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and over-the-air customer-function flashing. The contract runs from 1 November 2026 to 31 December 2029, with a Midrand, Menlyn, Rosslyn, and home-office rotation.

Responsibilities

• Lead configuration-management automation and Infrastructure-as-Code initiatives using Terraform and Ansible to standardise and stabilise production platforms.
• Drive service-transition activities for new IT services and major releases, ensuring governed handovers into 24/7 operations.
• Act as the technical escalation point for critical production incidents, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement permanent workarounds.
• Monitor and report operational KPIs through Grafana and Prometheus and reduce manual effort with automated runbooks.
• Identify and implement practical AI tools and use cases that improve operational quality, automation, and team delivery speed.
• Partner with feature squads, security leads, and regulated business teams to embed design-for-run principles into application lifecycles.
• Support change, release, transition, incident, post-mortem, and ITIL governance practices in a regulated enterprise environment.

Requirements

• IT degree or equivalent qualification.
• Six to ten years' broad IT experience, including three to five years in IT operations or operations management.
• Proven transition-management experience and ITIL Foundation, ITIL Service Transition, or equivalent certification.
• Strong Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or Salt; Python, Bash, or PowerShell; Terraform; AWS CloudFormation; and GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins experience.
• Hands-on AWS or Azure operations and Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK/EFK observability experience.
• Docker, Kubernetes, SRE, infrastructure-security, Terratest, data-pipeline, or ML deployment exposure is advantageous.
• Applicants outside Gauteng must be willing to relocate at their own cost; South African citizens, residents, and valid work-permit holders will be considered.
