Retail Buyer (General Merchandise)
Our client is appointing a Retail Buyer to build profitable ranges and drive strong supplier performance. This role is ideal for someone who understands consumer demand and can balance margin, volume, and stock risk. You will manage supplier negotiations, range planning, and promotional alignment with trading calendars. The business expects structured analysis, disciplined forecasting, and strong stakeholder communication. You will collaborate with planning, merchandising, and stores to ensure ranges trade effectively. If you enjoy commercial decision-making and supplier management, this role offers meaningful ownership.
- Develop category ranges aligned to customer demand, seasonality, and margin targets.
- Negotiate pricing, rebates, and trading terms with suppliers to improve profitability.
- Plan promotions and ensure stock availability supports campaign performance.
- Monitor sales, markdowns, and stock cover and adjust buying decisions accordingly.
- Manage supplier relationships, performance reviews, and issue resolution.
- Work with planners to optimise forecasts, allocations, and replenishment strategies.
- Compile category reports and provide trading insights and recommendations.
- Degree/Diploma in Business, Retail, Supply Chain, or similar is advantageous.
- 3–7 years buying experience in retail or FMCG environments.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and commercial decision-making skills.
- Advanced Excel skills; retail systems exposure advantageous.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with planning and operations teams.
- Strong communication and supplier management capability.
