Refrigeration Manager - Papua New Guinea
Role Purpose:
The Refrigeration Manager is responsible for the full management of refrigeration personnel, systems, and equipment across all operational sites. The role ensures optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency of all refrigeration infrastructure, while maintaining zero downtime, high safety standards, and effective cost control. The incumbent will also lead maintenance planning, procurement, and the execution of refrigeration-related capital projects.

Operations & Maintenance Management
Internal:
The Refrigeration Manager is responsible for the full management of refrigeration personnel, systems, and equipment across all operational sites. The role ensures optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency of all refrigeration infrastructure, while maintaining zero downtime, high safety standards, and effective cost control. The incumbent will also lead maintenance planning, procurement, and the execution of refrigeration-related capital projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Maintenance Management
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all refrigeration systems including blast freezers, cold storage facilities, chillers, ice machines, air-conditioning, and refrigerated containers
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for all refrigeration equipment
- Conduct and manage reactive and emergency repairs to minimise downtime
- Ensure all equipment is operating efficiently and within required standards
- Supervise and manage refrigeration personnel, including task allocation, training, and performance management
- Conduct staff appraisals and support recruitment where required
- Mentor and develop team members to improve technical capability and performance
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of refrigeration-related capital projects
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external suppliers for project execution
- Ensure projects are delivered within scope, budget, and timelines
- Manage procurement, storage, and availability of refrigeration parts and components
- Maintain optimal inventory levels to ensure operational continuity
- Develop and enforce maintenance and safety procedures
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulations
- Conduct audits on completed work to ensure quality standards are met
- Ensure all staff are trained on safety protocols and equipped with appropriate PPE
- Identify and implement energy efficiency improvements
- Recommend cost-saving initiatives to improve operational performance
- Monitor system performance and reduce operational inefficiencies
- Effective implementation of preventative maintenance schedules
- Zero downtime due to refrigeration system failure
- Zero safety incidents or breaches
- Optimal inventory levels maintained at all times

Minimum Requirements:

Qualifications:
- Trade Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Refrigeration Engineering or related field
- Licensed Refrigeration Mechanic/Engineer
- Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience in industrial refrigeration
- Minimum 5 years’ management experience, preferably within manufacturing or food processing
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical repair skills
- Solid understanding of industrial refrigeration systems
- Strong leadership and team management ability
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong planning and organisational skills
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment
- Willingness to live and work in a rural setting
- Willingness to travel between operational sites
- Ability to work extended hours when required
