Job Description

Responsibilities

Measure quantities from drawings and on site, and prepare estimates, bills of quantities and pricing schedules. Assist with tender submissions and project budgets, and highlight assumptions or missing information before pricing is finalised. Track project expenditure and committed costs against budgets; identify variances and report potential overruns promptly. Measure completed work and prepare progress claims and subcontractor payment assessments for management review. Maintain variation registers and supporting records, and prepare costings for changes to the agreed scope. Support purchasing by preparing material schedules and checking quantities against project requirements. Work with site teams, suppliers and subcontractors to resolve measurement and costing queries and maintain accurate records. Assist with final accounts, reconciliations and project cost reports under management oversight. Follow site health and safety requirements during visits and maintain professional client and contractor relationships.

Requirements

A diploma or degree in Quantity Surveying, or a relevant building qualification with strong quantity surveying training. Approximately 2–3 years of relevant quantity surveying or estimating experience in building construction. Renovation, alteration or refurbishment experience will be advantageous. Ability to read construction drawings, undertake accurate quantity take-offs and prepare bills of quantities and cost estimates. Good Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, costing schedules and quotation comparisons. Experience with quantity surveying or estimating software will be advantageous. Practical understanding of building materials, construction methods, subcontractor pricing and project cost control. Exposure to progress valuations, variation records and construction contract administration; familiarity with JBCC contracts will be advantageous. Clear communication, sound numerical ability, attention to detail and the ability to manage deadlines across several projects. A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
