Quantity Surveyor
Introduction
We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Quantity Surveyor to join a dynamic Project Development team based in Cape Town.
This is a standalone role that requires a highly independent professional who can take full ownership of the Quantity Surveying function across multiple commercial and industrial developments. The successful candidate will be involved from feasibility and concept stage through to project completion, ensuring that developments are financially viable, accurately costed, and effectively managed.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct feasibility studies and cost assessments during concept and design development stages.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates and project budgets.
- Compile and manage Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and tender documentation.
- Perform detailed material quantity take-offs for medium to large-scale projects.
- Evaluate contractor tenders and recommend procurement strategies.
- Assess, monitor, and certify contractor claims, progress payments, and variation orders.
- Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets.
- Identify and mitigate cost risks, delays, and budget overruns.
- Assist with funding applications and bank submissions through detailed cost reporting.
- Negotiate with suppliers and contractors to achieve value for money.
- Conduct site visits, inspections, measurements, and project reviews nationally.
- Provide ongoing cost reporting and commercial advice to project stakeholders.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Registered with the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession.
- Minimum 5 to 7 years' post-qualification Quantity Surveying experience.
- Proven experience working on projects valued at R40 million and above.
- Industrial project experience is essential.
- Experience within commercial property development, industrial construction, redevelopment, or refurbishment projects.
- Strong experience in:
- Feasibility studies
- Cost planning and estimation
- Tender documentation
- Contract administration
- Cost control and reporting
- Contractor claims and variation management
- Proficiency in Candy, WinQS, CostX, or similar estimating software.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or BIM software advantageous.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel nationally.
