Professor/Associate Professor 4IR (Johannesburg Business School) (Re-advert)

The Johannesburg Business School is a young and dynamic business school supporting digital transformation across its curricula and offerings. It delivers postgraduate diploma and MBA programmes in face-to-face and online modes and offers a DPhil programme focused on Digital Transformation.

Duties & Responsibilities

Job Purpose: Lead teaching and research in contact and online modes where appropriate, while engaging with the community and contributing to the mission of the University of Johannesburg.

Teaching and Learning:

  • Lecture, coordinate, assess, and tutor large postgraduate classes across departmental and service modules.
  • Contribute to effective curriculum delivery and student academic support.

Research and Innovation:

  • Conduct active research and publish in peer-reviewed outlets aligned with the department's research strengths and priorities.

Strategic and Operational Academic Leadership:

  • Participate in departmental outreach and community engagement programmes.
  • Undertake academic and administrative responsibilities determined by the Head of Department, including programme marketing, accreditation preparation, and teaching portfolio administration.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Recognised doctoral qualification related to 4IR.
  • Strong and sustained record of accredited scholarly research outputs, with national stature and expert discipline-specific knowledge.
  • Ten to fifteen years' excellence and innovation in teaching, learning, and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including online learning.
  • Eight to ten years' experience supervising Master's and Doctoral candidates, including online Master's students.
  • Three to five years' experience in academic quality assurance, curriculum development, and curriculum revision at university level.
  • Extensive experience applying disciplinary knowledge in community engagement, capacity building, and policy-related interventions.
  • Proven experience managing departmental academic and administrative functions in a university environment.
  • Established national stature with a strong record of academic leadership and contribution to the field.
  • Professional registration, relevant research specialisation, and evidence of research outputs and postgraduate supervision are recommended.

  • Flexible, versatile, highly organised, and able to follow through while working under pressure in a complex environment.
  • Good people management, time management, listening, and problem-solving skills.
