Production / Assistant Production Manager - Timber Industry

Job Description

Southern Suburbs, Cape Town

An established hardware and timber business, supplying and processing timber and board products, is seeking an experienced Production Manager / Assistant Production Manager to manage its production and associated warehouse operations.

The position requires a hands-on manufacturing leader who can manage a sizeable production team, plan workflow, maintain quality and output, control stock and ensure customer deadlines are consistently achieved.

Salary: Market Related
Benefits: Provident Fund after 6 months

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and supervise a production team of 20+ staff.
  • Plan daily production according to customer orders and deadlines.
  • Monitor production output and quality standards.
  • Set up equipment and coordinate maintenance and servicing.
  • Manage stock requirements to meet production needs.
  • Oversee warehouse operations and stock storage.
  • Supervise the loading of customer orders.
  • Assist with HR matters involving production staff.
  • Maintain OHS standards.
  • Ensure production areas remain clean, organised and efficient.
  • Maintain production records and administration.
  • Coach, mentor and develop employees.
  • Participate as a member of the management team.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • 5+ years' Production Manager / Production Supervisor experience.
  • Proven experience managing 20+ production staff.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification advantageous.
  • Strong technical aptitude and manufacturing knowledge.
  • Experience within timber, woodworking, shopfitting, engineering, packaging, printing, metal or plastics manufacturing advantageous.
  • Strong production planning and organisational ability.
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Computer literate – Excel and Outlook.
  • Forklift license advantageous.
  • OHS experience advantageous.
  • Able to manage deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong but fair people-management style.
Working Hours
Monday–Friday: 08:00–17:00
Saturday: 08:00–13:00
