Role Overview

The Pattern Shop supports foundry production by ensuring patterns, core boxes and related tooling are manufactured, maintained and available to the required standard in Atlantis.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints or drawings of parts and patterns.
  • Compute dimensions and plan operational sequences.
  • Set up and operate milling machines, lathes, drill presses and grinders.
  • Verify pattern and template dimensions using calipers, scales and micrometers.
  • Design and create templates, patterns and core boxes from work orders, sample parts or mock-ups.
  • Ensure patterns, core boxes and related tooling are manufactured and maintained to the required standard.
  • Work closely with production toward shared company objectives.

Working Relationships

The Pattern Shop plays a critical role in supporting foundry production. The role works closely with production to keep tooling available and contribute to common and collective company objectives. Work may begin from a work order, sample part or mock-up and must result in tooling that conforms to the required specification.

Quality Focus

Accuracy is central to the role: dimensions must be computed and checked, operational sequences planned, and patterns or templates verified with suitable measuring instruments before they are released for production use.
