Mechanical Design Engineer - Bellville
Role Purpose
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design and engineering of industrial watertube boilers and associated equipment.
The role focuses on delivering high-quality mechanical designs across multiple projects, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, and supporting the full project lifecycle from tendering through to commissioning and after-sales support. The incumbent will work in a high-pressure environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining technical excellence and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Design
Deliver accurate and efficient mechanical designs for boiler systems.
- Perform thermal design of boilers and associated equipment.
- Execute pressure part design in line with engineering standards.
- Complete detailed mechanical design of boiler systems and components.
- Specify and select bought-out equipment for boiler installations.
Project Lifecycle Involvement
Provide engineering support across all project phases.
- Participate in tendering and quotation processes.
- Support project execution through design and engineering input.
- Contribute to commissioning activities and ensure system functionality.
- Provide after-sales engineering support where required.
Technical Review & Accountability
Ensure engineering accuracy and compliance.
- Review and approve drawings produced by the Design/Drawing Office.
- Take full engineering accountability for issued designs and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with national and international engineering standards and regulations.
Stakeholder Engagement
Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders at all levels.
- Provide technical input and support during project discussions.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure successful project delivery.
Role Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering – essential.
Professional registration with ECSA – preferred.
Experience
Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in an industrial environment.
Technical Competencies
Strong knowledge of Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Heat Transfer.
Understanding of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Stress Analysis.
Knowledge of national and international engineering standards and regulations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Behavioural Competencies
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Additional Requirements
Willingness to travel locally and internationally, including Africa and South East Asia.
