Mechanical 3D Designer / Draughtsman

Role Overview

Join an engineering and equipment business specialising in practical solutions for the mining and mineral-processing industry. The role contributes to the design and development of mechanical equipment and systems.

The successful candidate will develop engineering concepts into accurate, manufacturable and workshop-ready designs.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed 3D mechanical designs and models using Autodesk Inventor.
• Produce accurate manufacturing, fabrication and assembly drawings.
• Develop mechanical assemblies, components, layouts and detailed fabrication drawings.
• Prepare and maintain bills of materials and related manufacturing information.
• Interpret concepts, specifications and technical requirements and convert them into practical design solutions.
• Ensure designs are suitable for fabrication, manufacturing and assembly.
• Review and modify existing designs where required.
• Work closely with engineering, fabrication, workshop and production teams.
• Assist with technical problem-solving and design improvements.
• Maintain accurate design and drawing documentation and ensure designs meet technical, quality and manufacturing standards.

Requirements

• Grade 12 or Matric.
• A relevant qualification in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering, Draughting, Engineering or a related technical field is advantageous.
• Minimum three years of Autodesk Inventor experience and approximately three to five years in a mechanical or engineering environment.
• Strong 3D mechanical design and technical draughting experience.
• Experience producing manufacturing drawings, assemblies and bills of materials.
• Good understanding of mechanical assemblies, fabrication and manufacturing processes.
• Strong technical and problem-solving ability, attention to detail and computer literacy.
• Mining, mineral-processing equipment, heavy engineering or fabrication experience is beneficial.
