Maintenance Improvement Specialist
Role Overview
Join a leading mining operation in Hotazel as a site-based Maintenance Improvement Specialist. Analyse maintenance performance, reduce breakdowns, improve reliability across the mine and process plant, and help technical teams adopt proactive, data-driven maintenance practices. Relocation to Hotazel is required.
Responsibilities
- Analyse maintenance practices and optimise reactive, planned, and predictive maintenance.
- Develop and implement maintenance-improvement plans aligned with business goals.
- Reduce breakdowns and unplanned downtime through systematic improvement and RCFA/RCA.
- Identify chronic equipment issues, reliability risks, and maintenance cost drivers.
- Improve MTBF, MTTR, availability, job plans, task lists, maintenance standards, and scheduling compliance.
- Support RCM principles, backlog management, spares strategies, audits, compliance, and safety improvements.
- Analyse CMMS data, track maintenance KPIs, and benchmark performance against best practice.
- Coach artisans, planners, and supervisors and work with Operations, Engineering, OEMs, suppliers, Commercial, and other stakeholders.
Requirements
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification at NQF 6.
- At least five years of maintenance-improvement experience in opencast mining and a process plant.
- Strong CMMS experience with SAP, Ellipse, SAGE, KARABO PM, or a similar system.
- Project-management certificate and engineering supervisory certificate.
- Artisan trade certificate is advantageous.
- Strong analytical, diagnostic, reporting, communication, planning, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid Code 08 driver’s licence and medical fitness for a mining environment.
