Laboratory Technician
Laboratory Technician
Salary: R10 000 to R15 000 per month, depending on experience and qualificationsA well-established company based in Cape Town is seeking a reliable, accurate and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to assist with laboratory testing, sample preparation, analysis and quality-control procedures.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working with chemicals, laboratory equipment and technical documentation while maintaining strict safety, quality and housekeeping standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, label, prepare and test samples according to prescribed procedures.
- Perform titrations and other routine chemical or laboratory analyses.
- Accurately record, calculate and report test results.
- Assist with quality-control testing of raw materials and finished products.
- Operate, clean and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Calibrate laboratory instruments and report equipment faults.
- Prepare chemical solutions, reagents and testing materials.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, registers and documentation.
- Identify and report irregularities, deviations or non-conforming results.
- Ensure samples and chemicals are stored and disposed of correctly.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe laboratory environment.
- Follow company procedures and health, safety, quality and environmental standards.
- Assist with stock control of chemicals, consumables and laboratory supplies.
- Support continuous improvement within the laboratory and production environment.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric with Mathematics and Physical Science.
- A relevant qualification in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Laboratory Technology or a related field would be advantageous.
- Previous laboratory, quality-control or chemical-testing experience would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of sample preparation, titrations and basic analytical techniques.
- Ability to work accurately with measurements, calculations and test results.
- Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Good problem-solving and organisational skills.
- Ability to follow technical procedures and safety instructions.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work in a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
- Must be reliable, responsible and willing to learn.
