Key Account Manager

An established food company is seeking a Key Account Manager (Foodservice) to manage, grow, and retain key national and regional foodservice accounts, focusing on driving sales growth, building strong customer relationships, negotiating effectively, and ensuring high levels of service delivery across all assigned accounts.


Key Responsibilities
Sales & Commercial Performance
  • Achieve sales budgets, turnover, margin, and profitability targets
  • Develop and implement growth strategies aligned to business objectives
  • Act as the primary communication link between customers and the business
  • Prepare weekly and monthly sales, margin, and performance reports
  • Identify risks to budget achievement and recommend corrective actions
Key Account Management
  • Build and maintain strong long-term customer relationships
  • Understand customer needs and operational challenges
  • Provide tailored solutions to support mutual growth
  • Resolve queries and manage complaints to ensure service excellence
Operations & Supply Chain
  • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of products
  • Manage returns, claims, and stock availability
  • Monitor stock levels across depots and distribution centres
  • Support forecasting and replenishment planning
  • Drive process improvements for operational efficiency
Reporting & Market Intelligence
  • Compile regular forecasts and key account reports
  • Analyse market trends and competitor activity
  • Identify opportunities for SKU expansion and portfolio growth
  • Negotiate pricing, promotions, and listings in line with strategy
Team Leadership
  • Manage and support sales representatives
  • Monitor performance and provide regular feedback
  • Promote a collaborative and high-performance culture

Requirements
  • 3–5 years’ FMCG Key Account Management experience
  • Willingness to travel locally
  • Seafood or foodservice industry experience advantageous
  • Strong understanding of foodservice channels advantageous
Qualifications
  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Degree in Sales or Marketing (required)
  • SAP or similar ERP system proficiency
