Junior Technician (Mining Industry)
Introduction
A well-established mining-industry company is seeking a motivated, hands-on Junior Technician. The role offers a technically minded person the opportunity to develop skills while assisting with maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical support for mining equipment and systems in the Northern Cape/Kuruman area.
Hardware Management
- Review hardware effectiveness and identify inactive hardware requiring repair or replacement.
- Undertake scheduled inspections of Optimizer Lite hardware.
- Inspect hardware and assess whether it should be repaired or replaced.
- Install, de-install, or oversee installation and decommissioning of hardware.
- Test installation effectiveness and diagnose hardware malfunctions.
- Clearly mark and package removed units for reuse.
- Train attendants and equipment operators.
- Maintain health and safety compliance.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric or Grade 12 certificate.
- Relevant technical qualification, such as N3-N6, a trade certificate, or a diploma in mechanical, electrical, or mining engineering.
- Code B driver's licence.
- Health and safety certification such as SAMTRAC, NOSA, First Aid, Firefighting, or HIRA.
Technical Competencies
Hard skills: Equipment maintenance and repair, instrumentation and calibration, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, technical drawing and schematic reading, testing procedures, and safe tool handling.
Process knowledge: Equipment operation, machinery maintenance, Optimizer Lite, data logging, preventative and reactive maintenance, plant-processing flow, HSE standards, shift handovers, breakdown reporting, root-cause analysis, and stock and spares usage.
Technologies: PLC and SCADA systems, diagnostic tools, digital work-order systems, calibration software, two-way radios and dispatch systems, safety-management software, and industrial IoT interfaces.
