Junior Network Engineer - Durban - R15,000 + standby allowance An opportunity for a junior-level candidate with prior hands-on networking exposure to support client network, firewall, telephony, and desktop systems. About Our Client The company is a converged ICT solutions provider. It specializes in networking, IT security, telecoms, fibre connectivity, and managed technology services. The Role: Junior Network Engineer This role exists to provide hands-on junior-level technical support across networking, firewalls, telephony, and desktop environments at client site locations. It contributes to the business by delivering direct site support and providing standby coverage. Main focus areas include LAN/WAN networking basics, firewall configuration and troubleshooting, PBX systems, and desktop issue resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Key Responsibilities Utilize existing hands-on networking exposure at a junior level to support LAN/WAN, switching, routing basics, and TCP/IP.
- Configure and troubleshoot firewalls at a basic-to-intermediate level.
- Manage and support PBX and telephony systems.
- Perform general PC and desktop troubleshooting.
- Travel to client and site locations to provide technical support.
- Participate in standby duty 1 week out of every 4.
- Apply prior field or site support experience where applicable.
- Leverage vendor certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or CCNA (including in-progress certifications) if available.
Qualifications / Minimum Requirements
- About You Prior hands-on networking exposure required (junior role, not entry-level or a complete graduate/greenfield candidate).
- Foundational networking knowledge (LAN/WAN, switching, routing basics, TCP/IP).
- Exposure to firewall configuration and troubleshooting at a basic-to-intermediate level.
- Experience with PBX/telephony systems.
- Ability to perform general PC/desktop troubleshooting.
- Essential: Valid driver's license and willingness/ability to travel to client/site locations.
- Willingness and ability to work standby duty 1 week out of every 4.
- Advantageous: Vendor certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or CCNA (even in progress).
