Junior Chef - Pretoria East

Role Purpose

We are seeking a passionate and reliable Junior Chef to prepare high-quality meals for both a private residence and an office canteen. This role requires a versatile individual who is equally comfortable creating nutritious family-style meals in a home environment and preparing fresh, well-balanced meals for office staff.
The successful candidate will have a recognised culinary qualification, a strong understanding of food safety and hygiene, and a genuine passion for cooking. Experience or knowledge of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine will be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare daily meals for a private household, ensuring variety, quality, and presentation.
  • Plan, prepare, and serve breakfast, lunch, and occasional refreshments for an office canteen.
  • Assist with weekly menu planning, taking dietary requirements and seasonal ingredients into consideration.
  • Prepare a range of healthy, balanced meals with an emphasis on fresh ingredients.
  • Produce Greek and Mediterranean-inspired dishes where appropriate.
  • Ensure consistency in food quality, taste, and presentation.
  • Manage food preparation timelines to ensure meals are served promptly.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in both kitchen environments.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety and health regulations.
  • Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering groceries and kitchen supplies.
  • Minimise food waste through effective stock rotation and portion control.
  • Properly store food items and ensure ingredients remain fresh and safe for consumption.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment and report maintenance requirements when necessary.
  • Assist with catering for occasional family gatherings, meetings, or office events.
  • Adapt menus and recipes to accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, and preferences.
  • Work professionally and respectfully within both a private household and corporate environment.


Role Requirements

  • Matric Certificate.
  • Recognised Culinary Qualification (Chef Diploma or equivalent) is essential.
  • Minimum 1–3 years' experience as a Chef or Junior Chef.
  • Experience preparing meals in either hospitality, restaurant, catering, private household, or corporate catering environments.
  • Knowledge of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine will be highly advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen best practices.
  • Experience with menu planning and portion control.
  • Ability to prepare a wide variety of healthy and nutritious meals.
  • Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport will be advantageous.

  • Excellent food preparation and cooking skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • Good understanding of kitchen operations and stock management.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of dietary requirements and food allergies.
