Junior Accountant

Job Description

Are you a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant looking to grow your career within a well-established manufacturing company?

A reputable company based in Parow is looking for a diligent and accurate Junior Accountant to join their team. The successful candidate will assist with the day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting functions, including reconciliations, debtors, creditors, month-end procedures and management accounts.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Grade 12 / Matric with a relevant Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance or Bookkeeping
  • 5+ years’ experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role, preferably within a manufacturing, production or FMCG environment
  • Strong understanding of full-function bookkeeping and accounting principles
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger
  • Good knowledge of VAT, PAYE and other statutory requirements.
  • Experience with month-end and year-end financial processes
  • Strong Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables and financial reporting
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with suppliers, customers, auditors and internal departments
  • Strong integrity and a high level of accountability

DUTIES
  • Manage the full bookkeeping function and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Process and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Perform bank, supplier, customer and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Prepare and process monthly journals, accruals, prepayments and provisions.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end financial reporting and close-off procedures.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure transactions are correctly allocated.
  • Prepare VAT returns, PAYE and other statutory submissions, where applicable.
  • Manage supplier invoices, payments and creditor reconciliations.
  • Monitor customer accounts, collections and debtor ageing.
  • Handle inventory and stock accounting, including stock reconciliations and adjustments.
  • Assist with cost accounting, including raw materials, labour, overheads and manufacturing costs.
  • Monitor and reconcile work-in-progress (WIP) and finished goods.
  • Assist with production costing and variance analysis.
  • Reconcile inventory movements between the accounting and production/ERP systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of fixed assets and depreciation.
  • Assist with budgets, forecasts and cash-flow management.
  • Prepare management reports and financial analysis for senior management.
  • Investigate and resolve financial discrepancies and variances.
  • Assist with annual audits and provide supporting documentation to auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, internal controls and relevant legislation.
  • Work closely with production, procurement, warehouse, sales and management teams to ensure accurate financial information.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and reporting efficiencies.
  • Supervise or review the work of junior bookkeeping/accounts staff, where applicable.
Salary: R negotiable dependent on experience
