We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Accountant to join our finance team based in Port Elizabeth/Gqeberha. The successful candidate will support the Finance Director in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, ensuring compliance with South African accounting standards, and assisting with cost control within a manufacturing environment.
This role is ideal for a suitably qualified candidate who is capable of handling day-to-day accounting functions independently while contributing positively to the finance department.Key Responsibilities
Financial Record Keeping
- Capture and reconcile financial transactions, including sales, purchases, and expenses in accordance with company procedures.
- Maintain general ledger entries and ensure the accuracy of trial balances.
Financial Reporting
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process supplier invoices and customer billing.
- Follow up on outstanding customer payments.
- Reconcile supplier and customer accounts.
Compliance & Statutory Submissions
- Assist with VAT and other statutory submissions to SARS.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and South African accounting standards.
Payroll Assistance
- Support payroll processing and related statutory submissions, including PAYE, UIF, and SDL.
Bank Reconciliations & Cash Flow
- Prepare bank reconciliations.
- Assist in monitoring company cash flow.
Audit Support
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
Inventory & Costing Support
- Assist with monitoring raw material and finished goods inventory.
- Support accurate product costing processes within the manufacturing environment.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis when required.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- 3-year Accounting Degree or Diploma (e.g. BCom Accounting or equivalent).
Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ accounting experience.
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of South African tax laws and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage or Pastel.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP.
- Strong administrative and organizational abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
Additional Information
- Candidates are not required to have completed articles.
- An accounting qualification is preferred.
