GIS/Data Analyst

A leading technology company in the intelligent transportation and infrastructure sector is seeking a GIS/Data Analyst to join their team in Cape Town.
This is a permanent, full-time position offering the opportunity to work on cutting-edge geospatial solutions, supporting data-driven decision-making and spatial product development.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of academic experience with some professional exposure in GIS, data analysis, or related fields
  • Experience working with ESRI ArcGIS Suite, QGIS, or similar GIS software
  • Proficiency in SQL or similar database languages
  • Strong understanding of geospatial concepts, projections, and spatial data formats (e.g. shapefiles, GeoJSON, file geodatabases)
  • Experience analysing and working with large, complex datasets
  • Ability to build mapping products, dashboards, and data visualisations
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
  • Experience with technical documentation and process documentation
  • Ability to work in cross-functional and international teams
Advantageous:
  • Honours degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online and ESRI tools
  • Exposure to Python, ModelBuilder, or GIS automation tools
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI
  • Knowledge of Network GIS and topology analysis
  • Exposure to transport, infrastructure, or public safety sectors
Key Responsibilities:
  • Gather and support requirements for spatial product development and data analysis projects
  • Clean, manage, and maintain spatial and non-spatial datasets following best practices
  • Design, build, and maintain GIS mapping products and analysis layers using ESRI tools
  • Integrate GIS and other data sources into internal systems and dashboards
  • Assist with geodatabase design, schema development, and data standards
  • Support automation and management of GIS infrastructure and workflows
  • Conduct QA/QC on geospatial data to ensure accuracy and consistency
  • Develop and present geospatial outputs including maps, dashboards, and ESRI StoryMaps
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple regions
