General Manager - Shipping

Synopsis

A shipping organisation is seeking an experienced General Manager to provide strategic and operational leadership in Durban. The position oversees business operations, senior staff, strategic projects and high-level industry engagements while ensuring organisational performance remains aligned with company objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day and strategic operations across the business.
• Develop and execute strategic plans aligned with organisational objectives.
• Oversee key business-development and operational projects.
• Represent the organisation during high-level engagements with principals and industry associations.
• Engage with port operations and relevant industry stakeholders.
• Monitor external and internal developments that may affect business operations.
• Work with department heads and senior employees to improve organisational performance.
• Lead the regional team and manage senior-level performance.
• Provide high-level management reporting on a regular basis.
• Travel when required for business operations and stakeholder engagements.

Qualifications / Minimum Requirements

• Approximately ten or more years of experience in a senior management role.
• Extensive knowledge of ships agency operations.
• Relevant Shipping qualification or Business Management Degree.
• Experience working with principals, industry organisations and port-related stakeholders.
• Strong strategic leadership and operational-management capability.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
