Financial Accountant - Cape Town

Role Overview

Take ownership of financial accuracy, operational efficiency and regulatory compliance for a commercial retail and FMCG operation in Cape Town. The role manages a small finance team and supports profitability and growth.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and develop a team covering creditors, payroll and accounting.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and management accounts.
• Compile consolidated financial statements in accordance with IFRS or GAAP.
• Analyse profitability across sales, cost of goods sold, labour and overheads.
• Monitor cost drivers and provide variance analysis and financial commentary.
• Maintain general-ledger accuracy and reconciliations.
• Oversee supplier reconciliations and payments and review payroll.
• Maintain audit readiness and internal-control frameworks.
• Monitor cash flow and liquidity and identify cost-saving opportunities with operational teams.
• Provide financial insights to improve profitability and efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Professional qualification through SAICA, SAIPA or CIMA is required.
• At least three years of post-qualification accounting experience.
• Retail, FMCG, QSR or franchise experience is advantageous.
• Team management and staff-development experience.
• Proficiency in accounting software, preferably ERP systems.
