About the Role

A fast-paced retail business is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join their finance team in Cape Town.

This role is ideal for a hands-on finance professional who enjoys working in a busy commercial environment and has strong experience in reconciliations, financial reporting, month-end processes and core accounting controls.

The successful candidate will support accurate financial management, maintain strong accounting processes and help ensure that reporting deadlines are met.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Preparing and maintaining accurate financial records
Managing monthly reconciliations and supporting month-end reporting
Preparing journals, schedules and supporting finance documentation
Assisting with balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis
Supporting VAT, audit and compliance requirements
Reviewing financial data and identifying discrepancies
Assisting with management reports and financial insights
Supporting internal financial controls and process improvements
Working closely with the finance team to ensure accurate and timely reporting

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates should have:

A relevant accounting or finance qualification
Previous experience in a Financial Accountant, Accountant or similar finance role
Strong reconciliation and financial reporting experience
Good understanding of month-end processes and accounting controls
Strong Excel skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Preferred Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with:

Experience in retail, FMCG or a fast-paced commercial environment
Experience working with accounting or ERP systems
Strong exposure to reporting, controls and reconciliations
A proactive and hands-on working style
