Engineering Key Accounts Manager - Durban

Job Description

Role Purpose
The Key Accounts Manager is responsible for supporting business development and market growth within the industrial boiler and energy solutions sector. The role focuses on developing strategic customer relationships, identifying new business opportunities, supporting tender and commercial processes, and expanding opportunities across industrial steam generation, sugar, biomass and energy transition markets.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Market Growth
  • Support the implementation of business development strategies and growth initiatives.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities and markets.
  • Build relationships with industrial clients, sugar mills, EPC contractors, consultants, suppliers and strategic partners.
  • Participate in customer visits, technical discussions and industry events.
  • Develop opportunities within industrial steam generation, sugar, biomass and energy transition sectors.
Key Account & Customer Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain strong strategic customer relationships.
  • Identify opportunities for repeat business, retrofits, upgrades and services.
  • Support customer satisfaction initiatives and long-term account development.
  • Act as a liaison between customers and internal departments.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key accounts and strategic stakeholders.
Tendering & Commercial Support
  • Assist with the preparation of tenders, proposals and commercial submissions.
  • Coordinate technical and commercial inputs from internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in commercial negotiations and contract discussions.
  • Identify commercial and contractual risks.
  • Support the handover of projects from sales to execution teams.
Supplier Development
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local and international suppliers.
  • Assist with supplier qualification and performance evaluations.
  • Support cost optimisation and supply chain competitiveness initiatives.
Market Intelligence & Planning
  • Monitor industry developments, emerging technologies and competitor activity.
  • Evaluate opportunities within biomass, alternative fuels and energy transition markets.
  • Provide market intelligence and strategic recommendations to management.
  • Contribute to market development and long-term business planning.


Role Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Electrical, Process, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
  • MBA or business-related qualification will be advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within heavy engineering, industrial boiler systems, steam generation, process industries, power generation or related industrial sectors.
  • Experience in sales, proposals, projects or engineering will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of industrial boiler systems and steam generation technologies.
  • Understanding of business development and market expansion.
  • Experience with tendering and commercial processes.
  • Strong contract and commercial awareness.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Experience in proposal development and report writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Valid passport.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally on a regular basis.
