Role Overview

Introduction
An established engineering company is seeking an experienced Draughtsman / Design Draughtsman to join its team on the East Rand. The successful candidate will produce accurate 2D drawings, 3D models, fabrication drawings and engineering documentation for mineral processing and industrial equipment.

This role requires strong skills in both AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor, an understanding of mechanical fabrication, and the ability to work closely with engineers and workshop teams.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities & Ideal Candidate Profile

Key Responsibilities
Produce detailed 2D engineering and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD.
Develop 3D models, assemblies and equipment layouts using Autodesk Inventor.
Prepare manufacturing, fabrication, assembly and installation drawings.
Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and assist with material take-offs.
Interpret specifications, sketches, technical drawings and site information.
Check drawings for dimensions, tolerances, fitment and suitability for fabrication and installation.
Support engineers with design development and drawing modifications.
Maintain drawing registers, revisions and document control.
Liaise with engineering, project management, procurement, fabrication and workshop teams.
Conduct material receiving inspections against purchase orders, drawings, specifications and delivery documents. Verify material type, grade, dimensions, quantities and condition; review relevant certificates; and report discrepancies or non-conforming materials.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is:
An experienced mechanical draughtsman with a sound understanding of fabrication processes.
Confident in both 2D detailing and 3D modelling.
Accurate, organised and able to meet project deadlines.
Comfortable working independently and communicating with engineers, suppliers, procurement staff and fabrication teams.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements & Supporting Documentation

Minimum Requirements
At least 3 years’ relevant experience as a Draughtsman or Design Draughtsman.
Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor.
A relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Draughting, Design or a related field.
Good understanding of mechanical engineering drawings and fabrication processes.
Ability to interpret engineering specifications and technical documentation.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage drawing revisions accurately.

Highly Advantageous Experience
Experience in mineral processing, mining, water treatment or industrial equipment will be highly advantageous. Relevant equipment may include filter presses, thickeners, flocculant plants, filtration and dewatering equipment, slurry handling equipment, tanks, pumps, piping, structural steel and access platforms.

A salary package of up to R35,000 per month Cost to Company, based on experience.
