Director (P5) Finance - Financial Accounting

Role Overview

Lead the Financial Accounting Department within a Financial Governance and Control Division in Johannesburg. The role oversees accounts payable, treasury, external reporting, taxation, financial controls, governance, and strategic financial-accounting support.

Leadership Responsibilities

• Ensure appropriate financial-reporting systems, accounting systems, internal controls, and administration support effective financial-accounting management.
• Develop and oversee unit-specific project plans, procurement and contractual requirements, personnel assignments, and capacity planning.
• Lead the unit’s input to strategic planning, annual performance planning, reporting, and annual audit activities.
• Supervise accurate annual and interim financial statements, management accounts, and IFRS-compliant financial analysis.
• Implement audit action plans and evaluate the effectiveness of recommendations.
• Improve accounting, reporting, banking systems, internal controls, and treasury management.
• Lead and direct staff to deliver the department mandate and strategic initiatives.
• Build a culture of governance, customer service, honesty, integrity, and high-quality delivery.

Experience & Competencies

• Registration with SAICA as a Chartered Accountant or with CIMA as CGMA.
• Financial Management postgraduate qualification or advanced NQF 8 technical or professional certification.
• Five to eight years’ experience in a financial environment, preferably management accounting.
• Extensive managerial experience and experience managing medium to large staff teams.
• Project-management experience and strong IFRS knowledge.
• Excellent communication, decision-making, problem-solving, negotiation, planning, financial analysis, and financial-planning skills.
• Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and charts.
• Ability to work strategically and operationally in a complex environment.
