Contaminated Land Specialist
Our client is a well-established environmental consulting company based in Cape Town, seeking a Contaminated Land Specialist to join their team on a permanent basis within the environmental and oil industry sector.
This is a technical and operational leadership role responsible for contaminated land investigations, hydrocarbon risk assessments, reporting, and the management of field teams, with a clear progression path into full Operations Management.

- Tertiary qualification in Natural Sciences, Environmental Science, Geology, Chemistry, or a related field
- Professional registration (Pr.Sci.Nat. or similar) advantageous
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience in contaminated land investigations and environmental consulting
- Strong experience in hydrocarbon contamination, soil and groundwater assessment, and environmental risk assessments
- Proven experience in fieldwork, site investigations, drilling supervision, and sample collection
- Strong technical report writing skills including interpretation, analysis, and recommendations
- Experience within the oil industry, fuel depots, industrial sites, or petroleum-related contamination projects highly advantageous
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with client-facing experience
- Leadership potential with experience supervising or coordinating field teams
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to grow into an Operations Management function
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct and oversee contaminated land site investigations and environmental fieldwork
- Manage soil, groundwater, and hydrocarbon sampling programmes
- Interpret laboratory results and assess environmental and human health risk
- Compile detailed technical reports including findings, risk assessments, and remediation recommendations
- Manage and coordinate teams of field technicians and ensure efficient planning of site activities
- Oversee underground scanning operations and related technical field services
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, health & safety standards, and oil industry requirements
- Develop and implement health and safety documentation for site operations
- Conduct QA/QC checks on fieldwork outputs and technical reporting quality
- Liaise with clients through meetings, reporting updates, and technical discussions
- Support operational administration including invoicing oversight and project coordination
- Contribute to business growth and operational improvements as part of long-term succession into Operations Management
