Construction Site Supervisor

Synopsis

An established Construction and Property Development Company operating within the Helderberg, Western Cape, specialising in high-end residential construction and property development.

We are looking for an individual who understands that, at this level, the role is not simply about supervising a site — it is about taking ownership of the project, maintaining exceptional standards and ensuring every element of the development is delivered correctly, efficiently and on programme.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that projects are delivered to the required quality, programme, health & safety and operational standards, while effectively coordinating site personnel, subcontractors and construction activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership and accountability for day-to-day site operations.
  • Manage and coordinate all site activities from setting out through to final finishes and project completion.
  • Plan, programme and coordinate labour, trades, subcontractors, materials, plant and equipment.
  • Manage the sequencing of multiple subcontractors to ensure efficient workflow and prevent programme delays.
  • Drive project progress in accordance with the approved construction programme and project milestones.
  • Manage and monitor subcontractor performance, productivity, workmanship and programme adherence.
  • Maintain exceptionally high quality assurance and quality control standards throughout all stages of construction.
  • Ensure all works comply with approved architectural and structural drawings, specifications, construction methodologies and project requirements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, quality inspections and progress assessments.
  • Identify potential construction risks, delays, clashes and constraints proactively and implement corrective action.
  • Maintain strict compliance with Occupational Health & Safety requirements, site rules and construction regulations.
  • Manage site housekeeping, access, storage, security and overall site presentation to a premium standard.
  • Monitor and control the use of materials, plant, equipment and labour resources.
  • Verify deliveries against purchase orders and ensure correct quantities and materials are received, documented and appropriately allocated.
  • Monitor material usage and implement measures to minimise wastage, rework and unnecessary expenditure.
  • Maintain accurate site diaries, daily reports, progress reports, inspection records and foreman documentation.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting to the Project Manager and senior management.
  • Monitor project expenditure and resource utilisation against approved budgets.

Qualifications / Minimum Requirements

  • A certificate or diploma in building will be an added advantage.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment and health & safety guidelines.
  • At least 12-15 years’ experience in residential housing industry Foreman role or Construction management.
  • Strong project and site management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage construction programmes and meet critical project deadlines.
  • Proven track record in Residential Housing industry from foundation and wet works to finishes.
  • Broad range of experience with all aspects of residential construction including bricklaying, roofs & trusses, plastering tiling and other flooring types, painting, ceilings, plumbing, basic electrical, kitchens, bathrooms and vanities.
  • Proven record in dealing with numerous sub-contractors on large building projects.
  • Sound knowledge of NHBRC standards, requirements and guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of quality control, quality assurance and construction standards.Very good eye for details for quality wet-works and finishes.
