Conservation officer
Synopsis
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Conservation Officer to help protect wildlife, natural habitats, and biodiversity. You will support conservation programmes, monitor ecosystems, conduct fieldwork, and work with communities and environmental organisations to promote sustainable management of natural resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor wildlife populations, habitats, and protected areas
- Conduct field surveys, inspections, and environmental assessments
- Assist with conservation and biodiversity management programmes
- Collect and analyse environmental and wildlife data
- Identify environmental threats and recommend appropriate conservation measures
- Educate communities and visitors about conservation and environmental protection
- Assist with habitat restoration and environmental rehabilitation projects
- Prepare reports and maintain accurate conservation records
- Work with government departments, researchers, rangers, and environmental organisations
Qualifications / Minimum Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Conservation, Environmental Management, Ecology, Zoology, or a related field
- Previous experience in conservation, environmental management, or fieldwork is advantageous
- Knowledge of South African wildlife, ecosystems, and environmental legislation is preferred
- Strong fieldwork, observation, and data collection skills
- Good communication and community engagement abilities
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in various conditions
- Valid driver's licence is advantageous
