Civil and Commercial Litigator Claremont, Cape Town

A well-established law firm based in the Claremont area is seeking to appoint an experienced Civil and Commercial Litigator to join its litigation team.

Salary: Market-related

Requirements: 

  • LLB degree
  • Admitted Attorney
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ post-admission experience in civil and commercial litigation
  • Strong High Court and Magistrate’s Court litigation experience
  • Sound knowledge of court rules, litigation procedures, and case management
  • Proven drafting ability across pleadings, notices, affidavits, opinions, and legal correspondence
  • Experience handling civil and commercial disputes from inception to finalisation
  • Experience in one or more of the following practice areas advantageous: Dispute Resolution, Property Law, Labour Law, Criminal Law, Corporate & Commercial Law, Family Law, Administration of Deceased Estates & Estate Planning
  • Ability to manage matters independently and engage confidently with clients and counsel

Duties: 

  • Manage civil and commercial litigation matters from instruction through to finalisation
  • Draft pleadings, affidavits, notices, legal opinions, and correspondence
  • Attend consultations, court appearances, pre-trials, mediations, and settlement discussions
  • Prepare trial bundles and brief counsel as required
  • Advise clients on legal strategy, risk, and case progression across relevant practice areas
  • Liaise with clients, advocates, sheriffs, correspondents, and court officials
  • Ensure compliance with procedural deadlines and firm standards
  • Where applicable, act on matters in related spheres (corporate disputes, family law disputes, estate litigation, property disputes, labour matters, and criminal aspects connected to civil disputes)
