Area Manager - Western Cape

Synopsis

A fashion retail brand is looking for an experienced and commercially driven Area Manager to oversee multiple retail stores across the Western Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving sales performance, ensuring operational excellence, managing and developing store teams, controlling costs, and maintaining high standards across the business unit.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a similar Area Manager or multi-store management role, with clothing retail experience being essential. The successful candidate must have strong business acumen, excellent leadership and communication skills, a valid unendorsed Code 8 driver’s licence, and the ability to travel extensively between stores.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall operations and performance of the allocated retail stores across the Western Cape.
  • Drive the implementation of business strategies, operational plans and company initiatives across the business unit.
  • Achieve and exceed store sales targets by providing strong sales leadership and identifying opportunities to maximise revenue.
  • Monitor and evaluate daily sales performance across all stores and implement corrective action where required.
  • Manage the implementation of marketing campaigns, promotions and sales initiatives to maximise sales opportunities.
  • Provide regular feedback on competitor activity, products, pricing and promotional opportunities.
  • Manage, motivate and develop store teams to achieve maximum productivity and performance.
  • Manage staffing requirements, recruitment, interviewing and placement in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Manage salary and wage budgets and ensure labour costs remain within required sales ratios.
  • Work closely with HR on employee relations matters, including disciplinary processes and CCMA-related matters where required.
  • Ensure that store management and staff consistently adhere to standard operating procedures and company policies.
  • Conduct regular store visits and ensure that operational, merchandising, housekeeping and compliance standards are maintained.
  • Manage security and risk across the allocated stores and ensure that security procedures are strictly adhered to.
  • Monitor shrinkage levels and implement preventative measures to minimise stock losses.
  • Investigate high shrinkage and take appropriate corrective action in accordance with company policy.
  • Ensure stores are adequately prepared for stocktakes and minimise operational disruption.
  • Manage stock and assets across the business unit, ensuring accurate inventory control and appropriate maintenance of store fixtures and fittings.
  • Monitor controllable expenses and identify opportunities to improve store profitability.
  • Ensure effective receiving, capturing and management of stock at store level.
  • Investigate and address negative stock on hand and implement corrective measures.
  • Manage inter-branch stock transfers to maximise sales opportunities and optimise stock availability.
  • Maintain consistent merchandising, housekeeping and presentation standards across all stores.
  • Ensure high standards of customer service are maintained across the business unit.
  • Train and develop staff on customer service standards and assist with customer enquiries and complaints where required.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve customer satisfaction and attract and retain clientele.

Qualifications / Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a similar Area Manager or multi-store management role.
  • Essential experience within the clothing/fashion retail industry.
  • Minimum Matric qualification.
  • A retail operations qualification will be advantageous.
  • Proven experience managing multiple retail stores and teams.
  • Strong understanding of retail operations, sales performance and business financials.
  • Proven ability to manage staff performance, development and productivity.
  • Valid, unendorsed Code 8 driver’s licence.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to travel extensively between stores.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and over weekends when required.
