- Write SQL and NoSQL queries, optimise data-persistence schemas and configure distributed caching.
- Enforce API security standards covering OAuth 2.0, JWT authentication, payload encryption, rate limiting and CORS.
- Monitor, profile and tune backend performance and troubleshoot data bottlenecks, memory leaks and high-concurrency issues.
- Integrate event-driven messaging brokers for real-time, decoupled communication.
- Automate unit, integration and API-contract tests within CI/CD pipelines.
- Maintain structured API documentation using OpenAPI specifications.
- Partner with front-end and mobile developers to optimise JSON and data payloads.
- Participate in stand-ups, code reviews and technical-refinement sessions.
Desired Experience and Qualification
- National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related field.
- Three to five years' commercial backend-engineering experience building production APIs and microservices in modern cloud environments.
- Experience with Java, Node.js, Go or Python backend stacks.
- Relevant cloud or developer certification is advantageous.
- Experience in IT Consulting or Telecommunications is advantageous.
- Deep knowledge of API design, REST principles, microservices and event-driven streaming.
- Proficiency with relational and non-relational databases and cache-management layers.
- Experience with containerisation and CI/CD deployment pipelines.
- Strong problem-solving and technical-communication skills.
