Accountant

Our client in the recycling industry is seeking a detail-oriented and disciplined Accountant to support the Financial Manager and broader finance team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for full bookkeeping up to Trial Balance, monthly management reporting, reconciliations, financial analysis, and supporting process improvements across the business.


Key performance areas:
  • Prepare monthly management reports, including reconciliations, variance analysis, and key financial metrics.
  • Analyse gross profit to identify performance gaps and provide actionable insights.
  • Perform the full bookkeeping function up to Trial Balance.
  • Act as a strategic liaison between directors, finance, and operations to ensure alignment on priorities and timely execution of financial decisions.
  • Improve financial processes by identifying inefficiencies and developing workflow enhancements.
  • Perform full bank allocations and reconciliations using Xero.
  • Prepare weekly ageing reports to monitor debtors and creditors.
  • Reconcile loan accounts, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
  • Assist with inter-departmental and inter-company billing and invoice reconciliation.
  • Build and maintain automated Excel models to streamline reporting and data processing.
  • Support the development and implementation of transfer pricing methodologies for internal cost centres.
  • Journal all cash movements on Xero and report on cash expenses.
  • Accurately capture intercompany transactions, loans, and loan interest monthly.
  • Assist the creditors clerk with queries and manage weekly payments of outstanding payables.
  • Liaise with the debtor’s clerk to ensure accurate and prompt client invoicing.
  • Track and report partial inventory to management.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register on Xero.
  • Analyse and report on price and weight discrepancies.
  • Provide ad hoc reporting as required by management.
  • Calculate and submit monthly statutory returns.
Requirements:
  • Matric with a B. Com Degree in Accounting qualification
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in similar role
  • Experience in Xero Accounting will be given preference
  • Excellent computer literacy (MS Office – Outlook, Word & Excel Advanced)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be accurate and pay great attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Must have a valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport
